Grab Super-App Expands Bitcoin Payments to Philippines
Southeast Asian “everything app”, Grab just expanded its Bitcoin payments to the Philippines following a successful 2024 launch in Singapore.
Grab allows over 180 million users in 8 countries to do ride hailing, get food deliveries and merchant payments. Now users in two of those eight countries can do it all with Bitcoin!
It’s another development for Bitcoin and crypto adoption in Southeast Asia, which is always quietly around the top of the charts in grassroots adoptions indexes.
The Crypto News article below shows how this has developed through the years for Grab. Further integration of the Grab app into more countries in the region will be a good Bitcoin Commerce indicator to keep an eye on.
USA Regulations are paving the way for big Bitcoin Commerce improvements
The GENIUS act in the USA now provides clear guidelines around stablecoin payments. Interestingly, it was approved with wide bipartisan support.
This is a potentially big move for Bitcoin Commerce, as there is huge potential to simplify payments with new technology. Using the Lightning Network to make stablecoin payments faster and cheaper would also be a win-win for all.
On another front, the USA President also continued to show support for removing tax obligations for small crypto payments under $ 200 USD.
If approved, this could have a huge impact on Bitcoin Commerce in the USA, where tax reporting can really complicate Bitcoin payments. In fact, based on our experience, tax complexity has been among the top reasons businesses cite for not accepting Bitcoin.
While an individual may be able to make small payments using crypto and ignore tax implications, that really isn't a viable solution for a business of any size. Removing this burden would be huge.
